The unit was established to protect employees and property of the ABC
Board, control the flow of illegal alcohol, illegal drink houses, illegal transport,
and makers of illegal alcohol. Law Enforcement agents may arrest
for any criminal offense, although the primary responsibility is to enforce the
ABC and Drug Laws. Chapter 18B and
Article 5, Chapter 90 relating to the Control Substance Act (drugs). The Alcoholic Beverage Control
Law Enforcement office is located at 3127 Starlight Drive, Winston-Salem, North
Carolina 27107. They employee six
officers that include the following duties and responsibilities: Ø
Initiates investigations of
possible violations of laws regulating the manufacturing, transporting, storage,
or sale of alcoholic beverages. Ø
Receives and investigates
complaints and tips; establishes and maintains contacts with paid informants. Ø
Provides security and protection
for agency personnel and property; secures evidence, apprehends and assists in
the prosecution of criminal offenders through the presentation of evidence in
state and federal court. Ø
Responds to calls for assistance,
complaints, suspicious activity; completes calls by determining true nature of
the situation and taking whatever legal or persuasive action is warranted. Ø
Investigates and enforces the ABC
Laws and Chapter 90 of the North Carolina General statutes and Title IV of the
North Carolina Administrative Code. Ø
Conducts surveillance of areas or
places where illegal activity is suspected; searches areas where illegal
distilleries or illegal drugs might be located and plans and participates in
operations to apprehend criminals and seize evidence. Ø
Patrols streets and highways to
detect vehicles transporting illegal alcoholic beverages and arrests violators;
searches and seizes evidence. Ø
Conducts regular inspections of
licensed premises to determine compliance with conditions of the permit. Ø
Cooperates with other law
enforcement agencies as needed.
